Modified Humic Substances as Soil Conditioners: Laboratory and Field Trials

نویسندگان

چکیده

The paper is devoted to the development and performance testing of a soil conditioner based on leonardite humic substances (LHS) modified with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES). HS were obtained by adding APTES LHS solution at different mass ratios APTES, followed investigation siloxane structures using 31Si NMR spectroscopy. Urbic Technosol was used as model soil. size amount water-stable aggregates estimated wet sieving laser diffraction, respectively. Toxicity evaluated monitoring microbial substrate-induced respiration (SIR) seedling bioassay. Laboratory column experiments demonstrated an increase in water-stability 3–5 mm after LHS-APTES application. Field tests showed average weighted diameter micro (from 59 73 ?m) macroaggregates 1.6 2.9 mm) due amendment. A substantial SIR from 5 9 mg CO2 (kg h)?1 detected. Better survival seedlings observed. beneficial results indicate that APTES-modified can be successfully conditioner. formation extended networks suggested main mechanism observed improvement structure amended soils.

Prion Protein Interaction with Soil Humic Substances: Environmental Implications

Transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSE) are fatal neurodegenerative disorders caused by prions. Animal TSE include scrapie in sheep and goats, and chronic wasting disease (CWD) in cervids. Effective management of scrapie in many parts of the world, and of CWD in North American deer population is complicated by the persistence of prions in the environment. After shedding from diseased an...

Cation binding by humic substances

Humic substances are highly abundant organic compounds formed in soils and sediments by the decay of dead plants, microbes and animals. This book focuses on the important binding properties of these compounds that regulate the chemical reactivity and bioavailability of hydrogen andmetal ions in the natural environment. Topics covered include the physico-chemical properties of humic matter and i...

HUMIC SUBSTANCES Capillary Zone Electrophoresis

Humic substances (HS) which are widespread in the soil, present structural complexity and polyelectrolyte properties. Many techniques and methods have been used to obtain more information about them, as reviewed by Davies and Ghabbour in 1999. The characterization of HS has been the focus of intense research for many years because the organic matter in soil contributes to the quality of the soi...

Binding of mercury(II) to aquatic humic substances: influence of pH and source of humic substances.

Conditional distribution coefficients (K(DOM')) for Hg(II) binding to seven dissolved organic matter (DOM) isolates were measured at environmentally relevant ratios of Hg(II) to DOM. The results show that K(DOM') values for different types of samples (humic acids, fulvic acids, hydrophobic acids) isolated from diverse aquatic environments were all within 1 order of magnitude (10(22.5 +/-1.0)-10...
